8 persons were feared dead in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district when a lorry overturned.
18 people were killed and many were injured when a lorry carrying labourers overturned in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.
According to the sources a lorry carrying 35 labourers at National Highway 214 in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh overturned killing 18 people. Several were injured in the incident.
The incident took place at around 3:30 am at Gandapalli village and the lorry was carrying labourers from Vijayawada to Vizag.
Immediately after the incident the police officials reached the spot and with the help of locals removed the ash using an earth mover and rescued 17 people and injured have been shifted to a local Rajahmundry government hospital.
According to the report given by East Godavari district police the reason behind the incident is the drivers negligence.
The police suspected that the driver may be in the drunken stage and dozed off which resulted in the accident. The driver and the cleaner absconded after the incident.
All the victims were labourers hailing from Kathipudi and Prattipadu villages in East Godavari district and they went to Chintalapudi in West Godavari district on August 26 to work in eucalyptus fields. They were returning to their native villages after the completion of the work when the mishap occurred.
The bodies of the victims were sent to the hospitals for auto-spy and the injured were admitted in the hospitals for treatment.
The police officials said that they have registered a case on the driver and they launched a search operation to catch the driver.
