New Delhi: There is no surprise that people are eager to place their hands on the much hyped iPhone 6S and the 6S Plus. We all know that the devices are all set to be launched in India this month. Prior to that only, seven men were arrested by the Police for allegedly carrying 182 iPhone 6S and 6S Plus at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.
According to the officials, these mobile phones were being carried by the seven young men who flew from Hong Kong and Singapore on separate flights.
Vinayak Azaad, Additional Commissioner, Customs, at the IGI airport said, “All of them were carrying iPhone 6S and 6S Plus in their baggage. We have seized 182 devices from them.”
The custom officials who got some news intelligence news checked the baggage of these young people and seized the iPhones. The officials said that some of the youths smuggled the devices as they were offered money to do so.
Apple is geared up to unveil its latest iPhone 6S and 6S Plus in the country on October 16th. However, the price of these devices has not been revealed by the company yet.
Both the mobile phones have been launched by the company on September 25. According to the reports, 13 million units of these devices have been sold by the US tech giant on the first three days of the launch.
Apple’s latest models of the iPhone have been made available for sale in the US, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, the UK, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Puerto Rico and Singapore starting from September 25.
“We maintain strict vigil on flights coming from Hong Kong, Singapore and other western and South Asian countries for gold smuggling. The officials have been sensitised on the possibility of smuggling of iPhones after the latest seizure,” Azaad said.
He further said that there are chances of smuggling iPhone 6S and 6S Plus prior to the launch. There are still 12 days for the launch of the devices in the country.
