A road accident killed nine Kabaddi players and injured 15 others in Odisha’s Sundergarh district.
Nine Kabaddi players were killed in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Saturday evening after a mini truck carrying around 20 people overturned and fell from a bridge. In this mishap 15 others were injured seriously.
According to the report given by police officials three players were died on the spot and remaining succumbed of injuries after admitting them in the hospital.The police officials suspect that the death toll may still rise as the other kabaddi players were very seriously injured and were in critical condition. The team was returning after playing in a local tournament.
The Odisha state government announced Rs 1 lakh as ex-gratia for kin of the victims.The Govt also announced that it will bear the medical expenses of the injured persons. The injured were admitted in two hospitals in Rourkela and Banai.
The victims were identified as Abhiram Kalo (50), Chandra Sekhar Pradhan (18), Gauri Chandra Kissan (22),Dharanidhar Nayak (60), and Umesh Kissan (25). The other deceased were yet to be identified.
The bodies of the victims were sent to the post mortem and later will be handed over to their families.
According to the report given by police officials the driver might lost control of vehicle following which the truck has fallen off a small bridge. It is to be identified that weather the driver was in a drunken state while driving the vehicle.
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of Rs1 lakh each to the family of the victims.
