Diamond trader gifts 40kg gold to Somnath
A leading diamond merchant from south Mumbai, Dilip Lakhi, has donated around 40 kg of gold worth Rs 12 crore to the Somnath temple in Gujarat.
He has done so on previous occasions as well, and his total contribution of the yellow metal to that shrine now stands at 109 kg.
Pravinbhai Laheri, secretary of the Somnath temple trust, said the gold has been used to beautify various parts of the Shiva temple.
Rocky held from father’s farm, MLC mom on run
Bihar JD(U) MLC’s son Rocky Yadav, accused of shooting a 19-year-old youth for overtaking his SUV in Gaya on May 7, was arrested on Tuesday . Within hours of the 23-year-old’s arrest, his legislator mother Manorama Devi went into hiding fearing incarceration over recovery of liquor from their house. Devi’s husband Bindi Ya dav is already in jail for harbouring his murder accused son. Along with Rocky , Bindi has been additionally charged with violating the liquor prohibition law that attracts up to 10 years jail and Rs 10 lakh fine. All three are now liable to be tried and could become the first high-profile convicts under the new law. Rocky was arrested after Devi led cops to their Mastpura house under Bodh Gaya police station early on Tuesday . He was nabbed from his father’s hot mix plant-cum-dairy farm in the village. Until Tuesday , both Bindi and Devi had feigned ignorance about the whereabouts of their son. On Tuesday , minutes after the JD(U) leadership suspended Manorama from the party for “protecting a murder accused“, the lawmaker went into hiding as the government ordered her arrest in connection with the recovery of six bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) from their house 100km from Pat na where Rocky was hiding.
