Ajinkya Rahane Indian International Cricketer right handed batsman who entered into the cricket world with Twenty 20 international and made his test debut in 2013.
Cricket Club of India awarded him with Honorary Life Membership on Friday, Rahane and his spouse was given membership cards to enjoy the facilities of the CCI club, President Kekoo Nicholson at a brief ceremony at the 82-year-old private institution’s premises in South Mumbai this evening. This 27 year old cricketer greeted the club for giving him the honour and said his wish to become a part of the club.
Rahane is married to Radhika Dhopavkar. Their marriage was a love marriage and took place in Mumbai on 26 September 2014.
Rahane also stated, “I wished to become a member of this club ever since I attended a coaching camp here. When I had entered the club for the first time I experienced a very positive vibe. This is the place where India attained the no. 1 Test ranking (during a Test against Sri Lanka in 2010-11). I am really humbled.”
Rahane added into the list of the CCI sportspersons along with Sunil Gavaskar, Viv Richards, Geet Sethi, Michael Ferreira, Muttiah Muralitharan and MS Dhoni, to name a few.
Rahane quoted, “As cricketers when we travel abroad, we always hear of CCI as a historical place. The Indian cricket team became No. 1 in Tests at the CCI that houses the Brabourne Stadium. It really is a historical venue. I am really humbled to be here.”
CCI also conferred the honorary life membership on India’s top woman tennis professional Sania Mirza in clinching the US Women’s doubles title with Swiss Martina Hingis and also they invited the cricketer Shoaib Malik to address the function.
