The Maharashtra government has scheduled a special cabinet meeting in Aurangabad on Tuesday to discuss issues related to the Marathwada region.
Ahead of crucial elections to urban local bodies in the state, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is likely to announce major projects to bolster the sluggish agriculture sector in that area. Marathwada has generally been a drought-prone area with a high unemployment rate.
Besides announcing setting of Industrial Training Institu up of Industrial Training Institutes in Marathwada to impart skill training to youngsters and also different employment-generation projects under the job-guarantee scheme, Fadnavis is likely to announce agro-facilities.
While the total worth of the package is not known, officials said that these projects will be set up through the public-private partnership model and will bring an investment of close to Rs 1 lakh crore. “Districtwise projects will be announced keeping requirements in each of the eight Marathwada districts in mind. Agro-processing units, food parks and textile hubs are on the cards. Apart from two textile parks and spinning mills, cereal and oil-seed processing units will be announced,“ said a source.
