Owing to poor response for the third lottery , the BMC has decided to extend the September 6 admission deadline for seats reserved under the Right to Education Act, 2009. Students and parents can now approach schools until September 10 to avail admission.
Until Saturday , only 61 out of the 891 students who were allotted a seat have taken admission in the unaided non-minority schools which reserve 25% of their entry-level seats for students from the economically weaker sections.
The students were allotted a seat during the third online lottery conducted on August 24. “Very few parents seem to have waited until now to take admission. Many students must have already begun schooling,“ said an education official.
However, activists blame the delay for the lukewarm response.
