In an attempt to get children to attend school, the education department has asked teachers to click selfies with students every Monday to mark attendance. But the government seems to have forgotten its own notification issued earlier, wherein it asked teachers to not use cellphones in schools.

According to a government resolution issued on Friday , the teachers have to take a picture with students in groups of 10 on every Monday, starting January 2017. The teachers will have to provide the names of the students in every picture and their Aadhar numbers before uploading them on the government’s online database, SARAL.

Also, on every third Monday of the month, the teachers will have to take a selfie with students who are not regular at school. “Through this exercise, the teachers will be able to identify students who don’t come regularly. It will help education officers too,” said Nandkumar, secretary , school education.
