Work on first phase of Metro-II corridor may begin next month
Work on the first phase of the Dahisar-BandraMankhurd Metro-II corridor is expected to begin from next month as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to complete this crucial northsouth corridor by 2019.
“The Dahisar-D N Nagar corridor, called Metro-II A, will be executed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. We expect work to commence from September 1,“ said a senior MMRDA official. The Rs 6,410crore Metro-II A elevated corridor will come on the median of the Link Road. The MMRDA will first barricading the stretch to shift the utilities and then carry out the piling work and launching of girders .
“Work on Metro-II A is easy to execute compared to Dahisar (E)-Andheri (E) Metro-VII corridor along the Western Express Highway . There are many slip roads along the New Link Road that will ensure smooth flow of traffic,“ said MMRDA additional metropolitan commissioner Pravin Darade.
Work on the Metro VII corridor began from Monday with the barricading of three stretches by August 20. The project, also expected to be completed by 2019, will ensure seamless commute for 70,000 passengers per hour in one direction along the Western Express Highway .
MMRDA has decided to have interoperability between Metro-II A and Metro-VII corridors as both have originating and termination points at Dahisar. With interoperability, the corridors will also provide another east-west link. Both these corridors are expected to reduce congestion on S V Road and Western Express Highway , as well as help reduce crowding in trains
