City gets first big rain; rail, road traffic hit
Mumbai enjoyed the sea son’s first “proper rain“ on Saturday morning, with showers across the city bringing respite from heat and air pollution.
Although the Met bureau insisted it was not the onset of monsoon, the rains crippled the city’s rail and road traffic, leaving office-goers harassed.
Over 100 local trains were cancelled and several ran late in all three lines after the showers tripped power supply and led to unit failures. The situation on road was equally bad with traffic snarls reported from across the city .
Meanwhile, drought-hit Latur district has received 65.1mm rain since June 1 -121.9% of normal rainfall expected during this period-raising hopes of a good season for farmers.
