As English and mathematics are the subjects that most Secondary School Certificate (Class X ) students fail in, the state government is considering making these optional.
Education minister Vinod Tawde, speaking at a book release function in Pune on Monday , said, “We have asked education experts to study the SSC results of the last 10 years and provide an appropriate decision. Most students who fail the SSC exam drop out of school. In order to remove this fear, the option of choosing alternative subjects may be given.“
The now-defunct Balchitrawani in Pune would be converted into an e-learning centre, Tawde added.Set up by the Centre in 1985, Balchitravani used to produce audio-visual content but had to stop after the state government discontinued funds.
