Will get sound meters by Aug, state tells HC
Mumbai:Faced with growing criticism on the issue of noise pollution, the state government on Friday told the Bombay high court that it would procure decibel meters by August to check ambient sound levels at festivals and other events.
Hearing a batch of PILs on the noise menace, Rosy Sequeira reports, the HC also set June 24 as the date to hear a petition against the BMC’s notification extending timings for construction activity to 10pm. The court is also hearing pleas on unauthorized use of loudspeakers by mosques in Navi Mumbai and Pune’s Swargate.
Sebi set to relax norms for REITs
Sebi has proposed to relax rules for Real Estate Investment Trusts, allowing the funds to invest up to 20% of their corpus in under-construction realty projects. This could help projects stuck for want of funds besides leading to higher returns for investors.

The Indian men’s hockey team, playing its firstever Champions Trophy final, was locked in a fierce 0-0 battle with Australia at half -time at the time of going to press on Friday night. India had entered the title round on Thursday after hosts Great Britain rallied from a twogoal deficit to hold Belgium 3-3. The draw meant both sides finished behind the Indian team in the round-robin league. India’s best performance in the event so far has been the bronze medal at Amsterdam in 1982.
