Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Thursday revoked the expulsion of Ram Gopal Yadav , reinstating him as the party’s national general secretary , SP leader in Rajya Sabha and member of the party’s parliamentary board.
Ram Gopal was expelled last month after he wrote an open letter to the party chief alleging that some vested interests were trying to mislead the leadership and create a rift within the SP .
A day after his fiery speech in parliament, the announcement in political circles was seen as beginning of a reconciliatory process within the SP to bring together all warring factions within the Yadav clan ahead of the 2017 assembly elections.
“One should not be surprised to see SP state president Shivpal Yadav being taken back in the Akhilesh cabinet in the near future and the expelled youth leaders, MLAs and MLCs being brought back into the party fold soon,“ said a senior party leader Ram Gopal, who had strongly supported Akhilesh in the family feud was at his Delhi residence when the news of his reinstatement was broken. Expressing his happiness, he said: “Netaji could have never sacked me on his own.He was misled by some vested interests who wanted to see me out of the party ,“ he said.
Political analysts feel that Ram Gopal’s re-entry could be a setback for the party general secretary Amar Singh, who had been blamed by the former for the family feud. “This is their party , and they can expel or reinstate anybody anytime at their will. If Mulayam Singh’s affection and trust is with Ram Gopal, then I am also with Ram Gopal,“ he told an agency .
