9 MLAs ditch Uttarakhand CM Rawat, will back BJP
The Harish Rawat-led Congress government in Uttarakhand plunged into a crisis on Friday after nine party legislators staged a revolt, reports Darshan Kunwar.
The government is struggling for survival as the rebels, led by former CM Vijay Bahuguna, joined hands with BJP in a bid to block passage of the state budget in the House. The finance bill was deemed passed by voice vote but a division might well have resulted in the fall of the government.
A BJP delegation called on governor K K Paul late at night and staked claim to form the government with the support of rebel Congress MLAs.
