The academic council of the Mumbai University has decided to give a break of five days for Ganeshotsav for students of the varsity and all the affiliated colleges.
In case of schools, this year too the MNS party’s student wing, Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS), had demanded that the state education department declare a fiveday break in city schools for Ganeshotsav , which begins on September 5. The state department, however, maintained its stance that schools will be free to decide on the holidays.
“We will give a five-day break to all college students and in the second term, there will be a Christmas break from December 25 to January 1,“ said university registrar M A Khan. At the same time the deputy director of school education B B Chavan said that the MNVS had asked his office to include the five-day-break in the school calendar so that it is a norm followed every year by all institutes, but the same has been forwarded to the state.
