Commuters could face hardships on Wednesday as autorickhsaws are expected to remain off the road.The Mumbai Autorickshawmen’s Union has given a strike call against the state government’s “failure“ to regulate vehicles affiliated with cab aggregators.
Shashank Rao of the union said, “Around 1lakh autorickshaws will not ply on Wednesday as the state government has been ignoring their demands, which is affecting their livelihood.“
He added that besides banning Uber and Ola till a policy for cab aggregators is framed, the state government should also bar private bus operators and transport cars from ferrying passengers. Rao said, “The meeting called by the transport commissioner was a farce; he asked us to wait till the Centre comes up with a policy on cab aggregators. We also do not have much hope in the meeting convened by transport minister Diwakar Raote on September 1.“
