Maha reels under rain fury, normal life crippled in city
Rain continued to batter the state on Friday , paralysing traffic and disrupting normal life. Mumbai recorded 129mm of rain, its most in asingle day in August since 2012. Mahabaleshwar logged 117mm, Dahanu 61mm, Pune 43mm and Ratnagiri 42mm. Dams around Pune, including Khadakwasala and Pawana, discharged copious amounts of water into rivers. Consequently , in a rare occurrence, four major bridges in Pune were closed to public. Mahabaleshwar, Sinhagad and Lavasa continued to be largely out of bounds.
Several areas in Mumbai were water-logged, the worst being parts of Sion, Dadar and Kurla. Trains crawled and road traffic was hit severely, leading to thin attendance in offices and schools. Many flights were delayed too.
