Key accused in Bihar topper scam arrested
An accused in Bihar’s toppers’ scam, involving use of unfair means to help some students top the Class XII exam, was arrested on Saturday .
Bachcha Roy was arrested after he surfaced outside his Vishun Roy College at Bhagwanpur near Patna even as he had told some journalists he planned to surrender.
Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said Roy’s phone was under surveillance. “He was arrested while on the way to his college,“ said Maharaaj, who heads a SIT probing the case.
Bihar police chief P K Thakur said an accused surrenders either to a court or at a police station. “But police intercepted Roy while he was on route to his college.” Maharaaj said Roy had fled to Uttar Pradesh before going to Bhubaneswar. He added Roy was booked earlier this year in Hajipur when he was accused of reneging on his promise to secure better him marks in lieu of Rs 70,000.
