Raj schools to reopen early for Yoga day
Rajasthan education minister Vasudev Devnani has advanced the reopening of government schools by a week to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21.
Every year, schools reopen in the last week of June after summer vacation for teachers to make necessary arrangements so that classes can be resumed from July 1.
Devnani’s order to schools reads: “The entire staff of each school has to ensure that they should make necessary arrangements for Yoga (Day) on June 20. On June 21you (staff of school) should ensure that students of private schools and people living in the nearby areas should join Yoga from 7am till 8am.“
Last year, attendance on Yoga Day was made compulsory for teachers. “This year, the minister has played it safe by not making the event compulsory for teachers. Nowhere has the order used the word `compulsory’,“ said Suresh Sharma, treasurer, Rajasthan Shikshak Sangh.
However, he said the date was advanced to ensure that teachers made Yoga Day a success. “The minister knew that if you (teachers) are reopening schools on June 20, you have to come daily . If you missed June 21, it will be marked absent,“ said Sharma.
