The state government on Thursday submitted before Calcutta high court that it would give priority to trained candidates who appeared in last October’s Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) for hiring primary school teachers.
Untrained TET candidates will be hired only if vacancies remain after hiring trained ones, state counsel Shaktinath Mukherjee submitted before Justice C S Karnan. The submission marks a U-turn by the state which had sought relaxation of NCTE guidelines prohibiting hiring of untrained TET candidates beyond March 31this year. Hearing the petition, Justice Karnan said he would hear all sides at the next hearing before passing an order on the state’s latest submission.
