Downpour in north Bengal, south waits for a start
There was a prediction of rain but the weekend went virtually dry -some areas received scattered rain, though -turning the weather sultry . There is a forecast of scanty rainfall over the next 24 hours. There’s, however, a possibility of thundershowers on Tuesday .
Different parts of the state have started receiving moderate to heavy rainfall with the onset of monsoon. Even over the weekend, several south and western parts of Bengal have received rain. But Kolkata got negligible rain because of a trough along the western parts of the state. Kolkata is at the bottom end and it will take some more time for rain to lash Kolkata in full force, the Met office said. Heavy rain was reported from the sub-Himalayan region on Sunday . Alipurduar recorded 23mm rain. There was a downpour on Saturday as well -received 65.9mm rain while Darjeeling got 63mm.With Teesta water flowing just a cm below the danger level, incessant rain has spread the fear of flood in north Bengal. District administrations have been kept on high alert and relief materials are being arranged for.
The rainfall has been normal in central and western parts of the state. While Bankura recorded 13mm rainfall on Sunday , Midnapore got 28 mm and Kalaikunda 19 mm rain. Canning at the southern most part of Bengal, on the other hand, received 2 mm rainfall.
