AR Rahman: Oscar award winning composer AR Rahman will be honoured with the Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award in Mumbai on October 26.The fifth Hridaynath Award will be presented to AR Rahman by veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai on the birth anniversary of Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar. Pandit Hridaynath is the late younger brother of legendary playback singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
Lata Mangeshkar was the first who was conferred with the Hridaynath Award. Later, Asha Bhosle, legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan and Sulochana Tai were also honoured with the prestigious award. The fourth Hridaynath Mangeshkar Award was presented to Big B. Also, popular actress Sulochana Tai was presented the Award in 2014.
Rahman won the Oscar for Best Original Score and Best Original Song, sharing it with lyricist Gulzar in the year 2009. He received the Oscar for his amazing work in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire.
The 48-year-old Rahman is an Indian composer, singer, music producer, musician and philanthropist. His works are noted for integrating Eastern classical music with electronic music, world music and traditional orchestral arrangements.
His list of Awards include two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe, four National Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards South. Rahman has been given the nickname of “the Mozart of Madras”.
