Over 2,500 people affected by floods in Jorhat
The first wave of pre-monsoon flood on Friday inundated atleast four villages of Teok revenue circle, affecting more than 2,500 residents and their livestock after the swollen Jhanji river breached a ring bundh at Arunamukh area, besides washing away a sluice gate at Bonai.
The affected villages were identified as Sumoimari, No. 2 Kaoimari,Gelekoni and Bonaipathar.
Officials of the district disaster management cell said that they had conducted a survey for providing foodstuff and other relief material for the affected citizens.
“About 2,500 people of Teok revenue circle were affected by this wave of flood. We have taken up adequate measures to provide relief there,”said Jorhat Deputy Commissioner Solanki Vishal Vasant.
A concrete bridge was also washed away by the flood water of a rivulet known as Athubhonga Jaan in West Jorhat today.
