Coinciding with the 85th birth anniversary of former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, an MoU was signed on Saturday to establish the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Policy Research and Analysis at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong.
Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan and Chief Minister Mukul Sangma presided over the signing of the tripartite MoU with the Ministry of DoNER and North Eastern Council for the setting up of the policy research centre.
Shanmuganathan said the region needs to fully harness its tremendous potential and creativity, while Sangma said platforms were needed to take ideas forward.
A brain-storming session involving the dignitaries, students and faculty of the Institute was held on the occasion. The agenda of the session was to formulate solutions for the myriad problems faced by Horticulture in the North-East.
