Union Minister of State Babul Supriyo has paid homage to freedom fighter Matmur Jamoh at Pasighat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh as part of the fortnight-long celebration ‘Yaad Karo Qurbani’.
“Jamoh will always be remembered by all Indians for his bravery. He fought against the British and killed Dr Noel Williamson,” Supriyo said yesterday during the programme at Yagrung village, the birth place of Jamoh, as part of the 70th anniversary of India’s Independence.
During the programme, Supriyo said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Union Ministers, MPs and party workers to highlight the contribution of unsung heroes, freedom fighters and martyrs among school children during the fortnight-long celebration ‘Yaad Karo Qurbani’, an official statement informed here today.
The Union Minister expressed hope that Yagrung could be developed as a tourist destination as the village is full of natural beauty.
Supriyo along with Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong and others reached Yagrung village participating in a Tiranga Yatra motor cycle rally, the statement said.
In a memorandum, the ‘Adi Baane Kebang’, organiser of the programme, urged the Centre to give official recognition to other companions of Jamoh who also took part in the assassination of Noel Williamson in 1911.
