After Three-Day Trial Run, Cops Streamline Traffic To Ease Snarls In IT Hub
In a bid to streamline the burgeoning traffic at Sector V in Salt Lake, the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate is introducing oneway rule in the IT hub from Friday . Nabadiganta Township, which houses over 300 offices with more than 80,000 IT professionals, is bursting at the seams for the huge influx of traffic round-the-clock, choking roads and throwing punctuality haywire.
Excruciating snarl-ups near Technopolis have become a regular feature with Salt Lake-bound vehicles from Rajarhat remaining stuck at the point for long periods. “The volume of traffic has been growing at an exponential rate, but the infrast ructure has remained the same, now creaking under the gigantic burden. Roads are not wide enough to accommodate so many vehicles. Seeing the unrelenting traffic, we carried out a trial run of one-way system for three days. As it proved to be effective, we are going in for one way on certain stretches inside Sector V from Friday ,“ said Nishad Parvez, deputy commissioner (headquarters) at Bidhannagar Commissionerate.
