It was always a bumpy ride for motorists along EM Bypass and Diamond Harbour Road, and the monsoon has only made matters worse. With craters turning daily commute deadly , a dispute has arisen on whose responsibility it is to repair the bad stretches.
The state wants Metro Railway to carry out these repairs as the New Garia-Airport and Joka-BBD Bag Metro links are being built along these roads. But Metro officials disagree. They say Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) -the implementing agency for the projects -will only take responsibility for the damage caused.
“Along the Joka-BBD Bag stretch, RVNL will only repair portions close to the stations at Thakurpukur, Sakherbazar, Behala Chowrasta, Behala Bazaar and Taratala. The rest will have to be repaired by PWD. On EM Bypass, RVNL will take care of the concrete patch near Ruby . The rest is the responsibility of KMDA as construction of the BRTS is also underway ,“ a Metro Railway official said.
The KMDA, however, insisted that RVNL will also have to repair stretches at Purbalok and the Santoshpur Connector.
