After freezing the re-employment of university teachers post retirement by suspending the 1979 circular issued by the Left Front government, education minister Partha Chatterjee on Saturday wrapped up the teachers once again.

The review meeting on Thursday had agitated a section of the faculty members when Chatterjee also informed them of a bill, which is likely to be placed before the state assembly to install biometric system of attendance for college and university faculty members.

Taking a step forward, at the West Bengal College and University Teachers Association (WBCUTA) programme, the minister justified the move by saying that while his attendance is registered in the state assembly and even the speaker and prime minister have to record their attendance, the attendance of teachers should be recorded.
