Kolkata: The state government has made it compulsory for all higher education institutes to participate in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2017.
At the state-level review meeting on Thursday, minister Partha Chatterjee and senior officials had instructed all the institutes to participate in NIRF this year.
“It is the only ranking system in the country which will reflect the standard of each higher education institute. It is always advisable we too should know the quality of education, infrastructure, development achieved by universities and colleges in Bengal when compared to others,“ said a higher education department official.
Last year, a handful of institutes including Presidency University had participated in the NIRF.
In the same meeting, the higher education department has asked all institutes to obtain affidavit from every student, parent and guardian separately from the next academic year.
In doing so, the government as suggested by the Uni versity Grants Commission has asked the colleges and universities to install CCTV cameras, alarm bells on campus.
The department has also asked the higher education institutes to set up an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to build and ensure a quality culture at the institutes.
All colleges that are enlisted under 2 (F) and 12 B of UGC Act will also be eligible to receive financial support.
