Will Smith goes head to head with the NFL in the first trailer for his upcoming sports drama “Concussion.”
Based on a 2009 GQ article, the film from Sony Pictures tells the real-life story of forensic neuropathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu, who discovered a link between football injuries and early-onset dementia that, in some cases, led to death. He became at odds with the NFL after diagnosing football players, including Dave Duerson (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and Andre Waters (Richard T. Jones) with CTE, a brain condition caused by repeated head trauma.
The movie, written and directed by Peter Landesman, also stars Luke Wilson, Alec Baldwin, Albert Brooks and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
“Concussion” hits theaters on Christmas Day.
