BJP Faces Criticism Against Service Tax Imposition of Vaishno Devi Chopper: The Congress Govt has criticized the Govt’s decision of imposing service tax on the chopper service of Vaishno Devi pilgrims.
The BJP Govt has faced a strong criticism from Congress party, against the decision of the Govt over imposing service tax for the helicopter carrying pilgrims to Vaishno Devi Shrine.
Congress party has strongly condemned the decision saying that the BJP that weather the decision is the Prime Minister’s version of Jazia tax.
The congress party demanded the Govt to roll back the decision. A Spokes person from the congress Abhishek Singhvi questioned “Is this Modi’s definition of jazia tax on pilgrims to Vaishno Devi? Is it BJP-PDP’s version of jazia tax to pilgrims of Vaishno Devi?.”
He accused the Govt that it is hurting the faith of the pilgrims by imposing unnecessary tax and trying to control the pilgrimage by putting extra burden on people.
He said that the BJP-PDP govt has not realized that the chopper will be booked by the middle class families to satisfy their aged parents, physically challenged or who have health problems with which they cannot undertake the 26 kms trek but are eager to do darshan. If the Govt impose a tax of 12.5 % on the trip, then the middle class families cannot afford an air trip to temple.
Condemning the government’s justification of reducing the number of pilgrims visiting the shrine by levying service tax, Abhishek Singhvi pointed out that the Govt has not yet realized that the number of pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi has come down from 93 lakh in 2013 to 78 lakh in 2014 on account of such bizarre and obnoxious policy of PDP-BJP government.
