On Tuesday, Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister termed “unfortunate” the killing of a man by a mob of 100 people over beef rumour in Uttar Pradesh’s Dadri and requested to the general population to maintain peace in the country. “It was an unfortunate incident. I appeal to every citizen to maintain communal harmony, which is everyone’s responsibility,” Singh said on the sidelines of the 80th birth anniversary of Bharat Kisan Union founder Mahendra Singh Tikait.
In the interim, the government of UP has sent its report to Rajnath Singh on the Dadri lynching scene, in which 50-year-old Iqlakh was assaulted following that his family had expanded beef business. Akhlaq was assaulted by a 200-strong mob at Bishada town after an open declaration by a neighborhood temple that the family had butchered a calf and eaten its meat last Monday night.
