6 of 8 missing trekkers saved in Himachal
Rescue teams staged a remarkable operation 60 hours after eight trekkers went missing, airlifting six of them to safety.
The trekkers were trapped on the icy slopes of the 12,000ft high Chanderkhani pass in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, and two of them are still stuck in a cave. The team left food and supplies for the two till they are pulled out once the weather clears on Monday .
Seven BTech final year students of Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) in Punjab’s Sangrur district had left on a trekking expedition to Bijli Mahadev along with their friend and a college alumnus from Kullu on March 8.
Three days later, one of the students dialed `100′ for help and mentioned a “medically unfit“ friend. Two choppers of Himalayan Heli Adventure airlifted six of them on Sunday and dropped them at Rumsu village, 27km from here.
According to a rescue team member, five students are in good health while one needs emergency treatment.
