The Delhi High Court Rejected the Anticipatory bail petition filed by Aam Aadmi Party leader Somnath Bharti who was accused in a domestic violence case filed by his wife Lipika Mitra.
As the Anticiapatory bail is rejected Somnath Bharti is likely to be arrested by Delhi Police who sought custodial interrogation of Somnath Bharti so as to investigate him thoroughly.
A case was filed against Somnath Bharti under the charges of domestic violence and attempt to murder based on the complaint lodged by his wife Lipika Mitra who alleged that her husband is abusing her ever since their marriage.
On 10 June Lipika Mitra has lodged a complaint in Delhi Commission for Women claiming that her husband is abusing her from 2010 after they got married.
The Delhi police sent notices to Bharti to attend before it for investigation but he didn’t turn and again the Delhi police sent a notice second time to attend for interrogation to Bharti. As he was not co operating with the interrogation the police sought custodial interrogation of Bharti.
Based on her complaint an FIR was registered against Bharti under various sections of IPC 307 (attempt to murder), 498A (cruelty towards wife), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 313 read with 511 (attempt to cause miscarriage without woman’s consent), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
On September 17 the High court granted a two days anticipatory bail to Bharti providing him a relief but the leader has surrendered in the police station hours after he was granted with anticipatory bail.
The court in this regard warned the leader after surrendering himself before police saying that If he loves going to police station, then I will send him from here.Once you get relief, you act like a lion and go here and there.”
