Thirteen mountaineers, including nine boys and four girls, from the state have successfully scaled Mount Rudugaira (19,100ft) in Uttarakhand completing the Biju Patnaik Himalayan Expedition organized by the state sports and youth affairs department with technical support from Jamshedpur-based Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF).
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik saw off the 15-member team along with expert mountaineers like Premlata Agarwal and Bachendri Pal on September 16.
“Due to extreme weather conditions some members of the team could not complete the expedition. The entire path was covered with moraines and was prone to avalanches. The team has shown courage, will power and determination to reach the goal,” said expedition coordinator Susanta Das.
