BJD’s Dhenkanal MP Tathagata Satpathy has launched an online campaign that aims at replacing India’s criminal defamation law with legislation and to protect the idea of free speech.
“One of my cherished legislation is rolling. (It) aimed at decriminalizing defamation, strengthening free speech and protecting reputation,” Satpathy said in his official twitter handle (@SatpathyLive).
Satpathy, the chief whip of the BJD in Lok Sabha, launched a website (speechbill.in) to get support, comments and feedbacks from general public on the bill. In the website, he puts 10 principles to make the speech bill. The BJD MP also sought suggestions through twitter and email.
