The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) on Friday demolished 43 structures that encroached on roads. The demolition drive was carried out to restore the pedestrian paths as it is one of the priorities for building the smart city.
The demolition exercise was carried out on the stretch between Kalpana Square and Ravi Talkies and behind the Durga Puja pandal at Saheed Nagar. The demolished structures include fruit kiosks, eateries, small hotels and makeshift stationery shops.
The BDA enforcement officer, Pramod Kumar Patra, said the footpaths along all the major arteries will be restored.
