The Chennai police are returning to the good old way of bicycle patrolling in the city. This they believe would help them to have better access and control in narrow and crowded streets in the city compared to motorcycles and four wheelers.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today launched 250 bicycles to be given to police stations along with 100 motorcycles at a cost of Rs. 1.13 crore.
This comes close to the heels of a series of murders in the city. Just last Friday, 24-year-old Infosys techie Swathi was hacked to death at the busy Nungambakkam railway station.
A day later a man involved in several criminal cases was murdered in the city allegedly by a rival gang.
In another incident last week, a man was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and three daughters.
