PWF allies settle on seats, DMK, AIADMK wait in the wings
Racing ahead with Vijayakanth’s DMDK in tow, the People’s Welfare Front, put together just months ago, has wrapped up seat allocation, identification of constituencies and even held several public meetings to showcase a new alternative to the Dravidian parties.
Barely two weeks after conceding 124 seats to DMDK, a much sought-after partner, PWF distributed the remaining 110 seats among its constituents. MDMK is likely to contest 29 seats, VCK 28, CPM 27 and CPI 26. Details of the seat-sharing pattern and the constituency allocation are likely to be announced at a gala show of strength of the Captain Vijayakanth front scheduled on April 10 at Mamandur in the outskirts of Chennai.
While the two principal Dravidian parties AIADMK and DMK are still sewing up alliances and holding seat negotiations, the PWF has already firmed up its poll plank with corruption and bad gov ernance as key issues.
But DMK is unperturbed. “When we have seat sharing talks with a big ally like Congress there is bound to be some delay ,“ said DMK spokesman T K S Elangovan.“Nominations begin only on April 22. We have nearly 20days to campaign and lot of time to catch up. Moreover, M K Stalin had a big headstart with his `Namakku Naame’,“ Elangovan said.
