For every boy, 2 girls sign up for core engg courses in TN
Though girls have been excelling at science and math at the school level, when it comes to top-notch competitive exams like JEE, it is still a boy’s game. The good news is that JEE is a much-cracked glass ceiling. This year some 20% of those who passed the advanced version were girls, reports Adarsh Jain.
In TN, if you walk into an engineering course class, you are likely to see more girls than boys there, reports Adarsh Jain. Six out of 10 major engineering courses offered by Anna University have more girls than boys. Ten years ago, however, core engineering branches like electronics and communication, instrumentation and computer science were dominated by boys. It’s been a week since single-window counselling began and, so far, twice as many female students have signed up for core engineering courses.
