The opposition AIADMK on Monday urged the Election Commission to hold the by-poll to an assembly seat, which fell vacant after a Congress MLA resigned to make way for chief minister V Narayanasamy , after the Diwali festival.
AIADMK leader A Anbalagan said holding by-poll during the festive session will have an adverse effect on tourism during the festive season. He also said the by-poll must be postponed until the conclusion of a disproportionate wealth accumulation case booked against A John Kumar, who resigned from the Nellithope constituency .
Narayanasamy , who did not contest polls, has to be elected to the assembly within six months of becoming chief minister.
