The number of voters in Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts has grown by 20% in the past five years, a comparison between Election Commission data and the 2011 Census has revealed.
According to the 2011 Census, the number of people above 18 in Kancheepuram district was 28,75,460. It has increased by 26.5% to 36,39,491 till April 2016, according to EC data.
In rapidly urbanising Tiruvallur district, the number of those above 18 is up by nearly 20%. While the district north of Chennai has recorded a population of 26,626,38 of over 18 years five years ago, EC data shows 31,93,802 voters reside in the district now.
Chennai has seen only 15.77% rise in the number of voters. The city with 16 assembly constituencies has 39,75,028 voters higher that the Census that recorded those above 18 years as 34,333,26 in 2011.
