Dubbed serials: TV actors to hold protest
Small screen actors and technicians have decided to protest against dubbed serials that have crowded the state television market over the past four years.
Under the recently elected union heads, small screen producers, directors, actors and technician union members will hold a protest on August 14 at Valluvar Kottam from 9am to 5pm. The federation of small screen technicians, in a press note, said they have decided to write to the chief minister in fighting the “menace“.
Among the 80-odd slots for serials in Tamil channels, about 40 are occupied by dubbed Hindi serials. Production cost for one episode of a Tamil TV serial ranges between `60,000 and `2 lakh while Hindi serials are shot at `50 lakh per episode. However, Hindi serials can be dubbed at about `10,000 per episode. As a result, the ones getting jobs are only dubbing artists and technicians who number just about 200, the organisation complained.
