On the first day of the 15th TN assembly , it was a show of bonhomie between CM J Jayalalithaa and leader of the opposition M K Stalin, with both smiling and greeting one another. In the following days, it was back to business with the AIADMK and DMK sniping at each other.
On Saturday , however, Stalin seemed to have buried the hatchet with the ailing CM as he paid a visit to Apollo Hospitals, along with deputy leader of the opposition Durai Murugan and former DMK minister K Ponmudi, to inquire on the health of Jayalalithaa, 68, who has been hospitalised since September 22. The three DMK leaders could not meet Jayalalithaa, but met the doctors and ministers at the hospital.
“Our party chief had already wished the CM a speedy recovery . We met the doctors and ministers O Panneerselvam, C Vijayabaskar and Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai. They said she was recovering. We extended wishes for the CM’s speedy recovery on behalf of our leader and the party,“ Stalin later told reporters. The DMK leaders were inside the hospital for 15 to 20 minutes. The opposition leader said soon after Jayalalithaa was admitted, the hospital had said that she would be discharged within a few days but the latest release said she needs further hospitalization. “It is in this situation that we are visiting her,“ he said. The opposition leader said he hoped the CM would recover soon and return to work. In the last few days, politicians cutting across party lines have been visiting the hospital to meet the chief minister. On Friday, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi flew from Delhi to pay a visit to the hospital. On Saturday, MDMK chief Vaiko, CPM state general secretary G Ramakrishnan, BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan and Puthiya Tamilagam chief K Krishnasamy visited the hospital.
