The Tamil Nadu government will make a strong case before the supervisory committee in New Delhi on Monday for setting up of Cauvery Management Board and Cauvery Water Regulatory Authority , the permanent mechanisms to implement the final award of the Cauvery water disputes tribunal.
“Having missed the shortterm kuruvai crop, TN will insist on Karnataka making good the shortfall of 64.7tmcft to save the long-term samba crop,“ said a government official, seeking anonymity .The TN team led by chief secretary P Rama Mohana Rao will leave for the capital on Sunday evening.
As per the Supreme Court order, Karnataka is expected to submit its representation to the panel on Sunday in response to TN’s petition filed earlier seeking Cauvery water. Meanwhile, normalcy is returning to Mandya, except near Krishnarajasagar reservoir where farmers are pitted against police personnel to stop the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. Law minister T B Jayachandra told media in Bengaluru that his gov ernment will impress upon the supervisory committee about the water crisis in Karnataka and its inability to release 15,000 cusecs of water for 10 days.“The government expects the Centre to intervene and end this dispute. Be it Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Uma Bharti (water resources minister), either one can intervene and try to resolve the matter,“ he said.
