Jayalalithaa inaugurates flyovers across Tamil Nadu
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday opened 47 bridges, and flyovers across the state including Thirumangalam, Moolakadai and one arm of Vysarpadi flyover in the city.
At a function held at secretariat, Jayalalithaa formally unveiled the bridges and the newly constructed buildings at a total cost of Rs 365.76 crore through a video-conference facility, an official release said.
The Tirumangalam flyover at the intersection of Anna Nagar and Mogappair is 806m long. The Rs 60.23 crore flyover will facilitate easy flow of vehicles on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai. Residents of Padi, Ambattur, Kolathur, Madhavaram and Red Hills will benefit from it.
City schools, colleges to remain closed today:
Collectors declared a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts on Saturday due to heavy rain.Anna University has rescheduled semester exams in affiliated colleges. Exams originally scheduled on November 12, 13 and 14 have been rescheduled to December 21, 22 and 24 respectively.
All exams in colleges affiliated to the Madras University have been postponed due to rain.Vice-chancellor R Thandavan said the new dates would be announced later.
55 people have died in Tamil Nadu in the last five days as heavy rain continued to lash several parts of the state. Most of the deaths have been reported from Cuddalore
