Murder of techie’s wife at Chromepet: Relative arrested
Less than 24 hours after a 37-year-old homemaker was found murdered in her apartment in Chromepet, police on Wednesday arrested a 24-year-old man, a relative of the victim for the crime.
J Krishnaveni, the wife of a software engineer, was found stabbed to death in her first floor apartment on Nellaiappar Street on Tuesday .
Police identified the accused as D Arun Kumar, an engineer living in Egmore. “He confessed that he killed her,“ said a police officer. “He said it was a revenge because Krishnaveni had shouted at the man’s father, Dharmalingam, for not repaying `50,000 that he had borrowed from her.“
Police said Kumar went to her house at 10.30am, when Krishnaveni was alone.
“He quarreled with her and sheasked him to leave the house,“ an investigating officer said. “Kumar said he smothered her with a pillow. After some time, when she became conscious, he feared that she would make it an issue. He went to the kitchen, to ok a knife and stabbed her in the neck. There were tussles betweent the families after Kumar sent objectionable messages to Krishnaveni last year. He was asked to keep away from Krishnaveni and her family . They were meeting after a year.“
Krishnaveni is survived by her husband Jayamurugan and children Karthik, 12, and Anushka, 6. On Tuesday, when Krishnaveni did not turn up at the school to pick up her children, the school manager called Jayamurugan. He sent his brother-inlaw Udayachandran, who lives in Zamin Royapettah to check on Krishnaveni.
Udayachandran found Krishnaveni dead in a pool of blood. From the beginning police suspected a person known to the victim was behind the killing as there were no signs of struggle or forced entry .
