P Munusamy’s daughter bags MBBS seat
Rakshana M and her family were devastated when her father P Munusamy , a head constable from Hosur, died after a gang of robbers he was trying to apprehend stabbed him on June 17.
Rakshana learned the same day that she had made it to the merit list for medical counselling. She and her mother Munilakshmi made for a grim sight at the Tamil Nadu Multi Super Speciality Hospital on Anna Salai at the counselling on Tuesday .They kept to themselves, their quietness in marked contrast to the other parents and candidates who were jabbering away . The tragedy they faced has made them brace for just about anything.
“Dad would have been proud,“ said Rakshana, speaking in measured words. “I put in a lot of effort to secure a cut-off of 198.25 marks. It chokes me to think that I would have come to Chennai with him.“ The state government has announced a compensation of `1crore for the family and has offered to take care of her education. Rakshana said that she’s not slighting the gesture but it made no difference. “No victory will ever taste good for the simple reason that we won’t see him come back,“ she said.
Though weighed down by the gravity of the personal calamity , Rakshana spoke of a flickering hope that had surfaced within her. “I will have to stay strong for the sake of my mother and 11-yearold brother Upendran. I must get ready to shoulder familial responsibilities,“ she said after her bittersweet victory .
