At least 90 more students will be allotted MBBS seats in Tamil Nadu under the state government quota as the Centre has surrendered seats from the allIndia quota.
Meritorious students have been called for counselling which will be held at the Government Omandurar Medical College from 9am on Monday .
Every year, the state sur renders 15% of the seats from the state-run medical colleges to the all-India quota. This year, the state surrendered 432 seats and the Centre returned 91 seats. After the Supreme Court judgment in May , seats in the Centre’s quota were filled based on marks in the national eligibilitycum entrance test (NEET) instead of the conventional all-India pre-medical entrance test. “Seats are vacant in almost all government colleges including those in Chennai. Many students will use this opportunity to join better colleges and some who could not get admissions in government colleges may get one,“ said selection committee secreta ry Dr G Selvarajan. The committee has sent an SMS to rank holders and also published details on http:www.tnhealth.org.
