No Cong MP from TN in Parliament
With alliance partner DMK nominating two of its seniors to the Upper House, Congress hopes of getting a Rajya Sabha seat for senior leader P Chidambaram have faded.
The DMK-Congress alliance can win only two seats based on its strength in the Tamil Nadu assembly , reports CDS Mani. By winning just eight seats in the recently held assembly election, the party is in no position to hope for a Rajya Sabha seat. While Congress drew a blank in the 2014 general elections in TN with AIADMK making a sweep of 37 seats and NDA winning the remaining two MP seats, it will now have no Rajya Sabha MP from the state either.Former Union ministers Sudarsana Natchiappan and Mani Shankar Aiyar (nominated) retired recently .
Among the southern states, Tamil Nadu and the erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh have had the distinction of sending the largest number of 18 members to the Rajya Sabha.
